Ray moved back to Cornwall from East London several years ago, following 30 years of fascination with Cornish land and seascapes.He studied at Leeds College of Art. He then worked in London until he moved to freelance book design and illustration, increasingly painting and by 1985 was working in fine art. He finally moved to Cornwall in November of 1996 to be near the source of much of his inspiration. He was a member of the Hesketh Hubbard Art Society at the Mall Galleries until moving to Cwall.

In 1998 Ray was elected to the membership of the Penzance Society of artists and exhibits regularly in their shows. He is a member of the Penzance Art Club and exhibits with their life drawing group. Ray has had many exhibitions and has been showing at the Round House for some time. He lives in St Erth near Lelant.
