John Piper has lived permanently in Cornwall since 1967. He first exhibited at Penwith Galleries in 1969. He is a member of Newlyn Society of Artists and is a past Chairman. He was selected for inclusion in Marion Whybrow`s book - "Another View - Art in St Ives" 1996. His paintings are always in oils and either on board or on canvas. A restricted use of colour and an emphasis on line and form, set within the Cornish landscape dominate the paintings. Paint is often applied on a series of thin glazes, allowing the re-drawing to take place during the process. At other times, particularly with smaller paintings, paint is applied more opaquely and with less over-drawing. John has shown at the Round House for several years and now lives at St Levan in West Penwith, close to Sennen.
